Fiat Punto 2005 has difficulties to start. In Fiat service they said ECU (Engine Control Unit) needs a software update. Software update fixed the problem.
ABRITES Diagnostics for Fiat/Lancia/Alfa/FCA is an advanced diagnostic software application designed to work together with the Abrites Vehicle Diagnostic Interface to perform basic and advanced diagnostics in Fiat, Lancia and Alfa vehicles. General diagnostics It provides full module identification for the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles vehicles as well, it allows diagnostic trouble code reading and clearing, also the ability to perform actuator tests in order to determine the cause of an electrical or mechanical fault. The diagnostic functions provided allow it to be on par with OEM diagnostic equipment while applying the intuitive and simplistic approach tipical for the Abrites diagnostic software. Abrites diagnostics software allows the user to work with almost 100% of the vehicles by Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia and models from the FCA Group (Fiat, Alfa, Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep including models built after 2013). It is very important to note that the software covers vehicles from the full range of the FCA automotive group.
This includes not just FIAT vehicles but also all American brands under the FCA name - Dodge, Chysler, Jeep. We provide support for all these cars up to 2018. The software can perform standard diagnostics such as:. Special functions.

Right, went down to my local Fiat dealership today to get some mk2 rear bumper grills but decided to ask about a problem I have. Basically when I change gear after driving the car for a while, sometimes the revs stick or even rise on occasions.
The clutch isn't slipping and the bite point is fine. I was told on here it's the throttle body position sensor, or it could be. I told the guy down the dealership about it and he said he had a similar problem on his 53plate and he got the ECU update and it fixed it. Other symptoms of this problem include when idling, the revs bouncing up and down a little bit. Mine used to brounce from 0.6 to 1k for a bit when at traffic lights during the winter. Mine is an early mk2a (2000), and was neglected to an extent by the previous owners, I'd put everything I own on my car definately not having that update.
Have any of lot on here had this update? They want £72 to give the car some diagnostics test, and then £20 for this throttle body positioning sensor. There isn't really anywhere else I can go though, I think that diagnostics thing includes this update.
If it doesn't then I won't have the diagnostics test and just ask them to replace the sensor anyway. No one's had an update I know of, never even heard of it. Why do they need to do diagnostics?Yeah same until today.
Apparently it was done on the mk2b's but mine will have the same engine and software as the mk2b 8v versions anyway Diasgnostics to see whats causing my revs to stick or rise sometimes. Could it be my flywheel getting hot and sticking itself to the clutch plate? It only happens after a whilse of driving, so like a good 30-40mins straight. Which would give the clutch and flywheel time to get hot. I have trouble getting the car into first gear aswell.
I'm going to get my clutch slave cylinder bled next week as I think maybe I have an air gap as the clutch is hydraulic operated. If you want to make the journey to me mate when im at work then i can chuck the examiner on it and see whats happening! Also see if any updates are required. Cant guarantee it will work but worth a shot and better than paying the robbing dealers!Where is it you work Ben? I'm going home tommorow, and MK is only about an hour away. So could possibly come down during the middle of next week. I'd throw you a couple a quid your way for the trouble of course.
Thing is I havn't got any fault codes on the dash, like no warning lights or anything like that. The guy at Fiat said 'it wouldn't come up on the dash but when they plug it, codes will show that only fiat readers will see:/' So basically normal readers won't see it. I'm tempted to just get the TB position senson put on scrap the reading, last night the engine was stone cold and the revs stuck.
