Hello, I have a Linksys WAG354G (v1) and I want to upgrade the firmware from 1.01.03 to 1.01.11 (WAG354G-FR-AnnexA-ETSI-1.01.11-code.bin) the web interface says me 'failed'. Here is the link I was redirected to: I searched an english firmware on the site because my router is in english (Is the router only accepting english firmware?) but I didn't find one anywhere. Is there any way to upgrade the firmware, for example with TFTP protocol (that I prefere because it works at the boot and it's more reliable)? I need help and it's important. Thank you in advance.

I have a WAG54G ver 1.2, 4-port eth + wireless adsl router. The latest firmware update on the support download site is Ver.1.02.1 from which is ridiculous!! (details here: This is the ver I have installed on the router and lt does not even have WDS setting, so the device is more or less useless. I have checked open-source alternatives (the wrt line) but they all start with WAG54G V2 and none support the earlier models v1 and v1.2 I need to somehow upgrade this router to something functional. I have checked the GPL code page as well and while there ls a listing for WAG54g, I think itd for V3 routers.
So the question is: 1. Is GPL source code usable on v1.2 (I assume not) 2. Any suggestions to get a wds system on the router (including beta / alpha firmware) is appreciated. Thanks, but as I tried to explain (not so well apparently), 'I have checked open-source alternatives (the wrt line) ' In fact I already use dd-wrt on another AP. The v1 and v1.2 are very problematic in general.
Plus as I understand the source code before v2 is non-gpl or private. That is why none of the open-source alternatives can do anything. Open wrt has wag54, but it's for v2 or higher. 'None of the Linksys routers has dedicated general-purpose WDS support.' I read in several forums that there was newer firmware, mostly or all beta, and was allowing wds. The problem for me is that those were for v2 or higher models. Wondering if there is beta for v1.2 out there?
Also, isn't wds static routing + bridging? I don't get what is so complicated (maybe just not really understanding the issue). Even the GPL code won't help you as it often doesn't include the modem drivers etc. Which are not GPL depending on the brand and driver. Another good reason not to get those modem/router combos but get a plain simple modem with a standard ethernet router which you can use on any access technology. I can't tell about beta firmware. At least as far as I know even the newest E4200 doesn't support WDS with any other brands than Linksys.
And you can be sure that they won't add anything to the WAG54G. That's just too old.
WDS has nothing to do with routing. WDS extends the LAN and inside the LAN there is only ethernet and MAC addresses.
Routing is only between routers. What's so complicated: it's complicated. You repeat traffic. Access points must understand which traffic to repeat and which not, i.e.
They must find out the topology. WDS severly impacts bandwidth. WDS often only works with WEP (or static, non-rotating WPA keys). Do a little reading in the internet.
As it's not standardized how to handle all the topologies issues you often find that a repeater will only work with an access point of the same brand. A WDS would only be possible with the same brand devices.
